EAST TEXAS POETRY IN SCHOOLS -
This event is sponsored by the Rusk County Poetry Society. Poems are accepted from January until March 15 from students in grades 1-12. Poems must be original and must be submitted by teachers (or parents of home-schooled students.) The awards ceremony featuring student poets reading their 1st, 2nd and 3rd place poems is held in Henderson, Texas each April to celebrate National Poetry Month. UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT TYLER POETRY MONTH CELEBRATION -
Co-sponsored by the UTTyler Robert R. Muntz Library, the Tyler Friends of the Arts and the East Texas chapters of the Poetry Society of Texas -- the Rusk County Poetry Society and the Rose Garden Poetry Society -- this event, held each year in April, brings a noted Texas poet to Tyler. The event caps off the UTTyler student online poetry contest with the guest poet offering a reading and then presentation of the student prizes. Student poets also read their award-winning work.

RUSK COUNTY POETRY SOCIETY MEETING -
The monthly RCPS meeting will be held on the third Thursday of each month at 2 at 2 pm at the South Main Church of Christ in Henderson. Parking is in front of the church. Members also meet for lunch before the meetingfrom 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm across the street from the church at the Fillin' Station. The program includes literary news, a featured poet reading, a lesson and a critique session. Guests are encouragee to bring a poem to read.

ROSE GARDEN POETRY SOCIETY MEETING -
The RGPS meets monthly at the home of member Lynn Horton for fellowship and poetry readings.

EAST TEXAS WRITERS ASSOCIATION MEETING -
ETWA meets each 2nd Friday in Longview, Texas at Casa Ole on Spur 63. Meetings begin at 7:00 PM, but the group gathers around 6:30 PM to order a meal (each atendee pays for his own) and socialize.Our meetings consist of a program, business meeting, and readings from participants who choose to bring a small portion (a poem or two, a short story, an essay or article, or a chapter from a book) of their writing to share with the group. Guests are welcome!

BARNES & NOBLE POETRY NIGHT -
The South Broadway Barnes & Noble in Tyler, Texas hosts Poetry Night one Thursday each month with open mic readings and poetry discussion. Contact the Customer Service Representative at the store for more information.

ANNUAL PST POETRY CONTESTS -
Each summer the Poetry Society of Texas invites PST members as well as other poets across Texas to submit to their poetry contests. With 100 categories and thousands of dollars in cash prizes, this is the largest poetry contest in the state. Deadline for submissions is early fall. For more information, see the PST website.

Each summer East Texas poets are invited to submit poems to nearly forty categories of the Fall Festival of Poetry, co-sponsored by the Rusk County Poetry Society and the Rose Garden Poetry Society. With cash prizes, this is a uniques opportunity for poets in the East Texas area. Submissions are due in late summer. For more information, click here.

ETWG meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce building in downtown Tyler. There is an informational speaker at each meeting, followed by fellowship and refreshments.

EAST TEXAS WRITERS GUILD NUTS & BOLTS -
ETWG members meet each month for a more informal discussions of writing issues.

ROUND TOP POETRY FESTIVAL -
This five year old festival has gained quite a reputation as Poetry Paradise. It is held each spring on the Festival Institute at Round Top Texas and featuring Austin and San Antionio poets along with an impressive roster of guests. Lodging is on the Institute grounds or in nearby bed-and-breakfasts and inns.

UNIVERSITY OF MARY HARDIN BAYLOR WRITERS FESTIVAL -
This annual conference early each January offers readings, lectures, workshops, seminars and a master class in both poetry and fiction. Held in Belton, it has become a favorite of many Poetry Society of Texas members. Guest speakers come from around the country. The journal, Windhover, is associated with the event. East Texas poet Anne McCrady has been a featured reader and workshop presenter in the past few years.

BEALL POETRY FESTIVAL -
This annual festival is held each spring at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Invited evening speakers include nationally known writers.

AUSTIN INTERNATIONAL POETRY FESTIVAL -
Held each April in Austin, Texas, this is the largest non-juried international poetry gathering in the world. Drawing poets from around the globe to join the eclectic Austin poetry scene, the AIPF features readings at venues such as bookstores, restaurants, college campuses and nightspots. Participants can submit to the AIPF anthology, Di-verse-city. East Texas poet Anne McCrady served as 2007 editor for Di-verse-city and several East Texans have had poetry included in past editions.
